Jesus announced that the Kingdom of God had come and that it was open to everyone who wished to dwell in that Kingdom. What did He mean? What is this Kingdom? He explains it in a series of short descriptions of “realities” (Beatitudes) for those who are dwellers. This was incredibly good news for people of Jesus day because they had been marginalized and excluded from the kingdom (on earth) for so long they no longer thought they were Kingdom-worthy. Jesus declared that they were the perfect people to consider moving into the Kingdom of God. In fact the only people who really do dwell in His Kingdom are those who possess the perceived “downside” of the Beatitudes.
