Micah and Gavin continue the conversation from Sunday's message on Matthew 6:1-18 and touch on Jesus's introduction of the Lord's Prayer. 

Turn the other cheek! Love your enemy! How can these principles be? Are we saying be humiliated, hurt and rejected? The audience that Jesus was confronting knew what it meant to be these things. But in our culture, day, and even religious practices we are unacquainted with the space that Jesus often subjected himself too. Kris Hayes takes us further into Jesus's Sermon on the Mount!

Matthew 5:33-37

We continue through Jesus's Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5:27-30 where once again Jesus invites us to examine our hearts and the space we give to our temptations. Rather than trying to find the line of what is permissible, God desires to nurture a heart of relationship. 

We debrief a little from Sunday's sermon and hear from our friend Uriah McCarthy about his journey and where he senses God calling him. 

Jesus does away with the excuse of just "following the law" as he points out that it isn't enough to just not kill but in fact murder begins in our heart when we are held captive by anger. Too easily that condition becomes our normal state and we let anger drive and control us until we are, as Jesus points out, consumed completely. Jesus offers us another way, the way of the lamb.

Matthew 5:16-20 - Why is it that so many people claim to be followers of Christ (Kingdom dwellers) but their lifestyle and values look more like non-dwellers? Anger levels = about equal. Divorce rates = about equal. Greed = about equal. Consumption = about equal. What is going on here? Is there not an obvious difference in the lives of Kingdom-dwellers? What did Jesus mean that our righteousness must be greater than the religious people of His day?
