Far too often we believe the body is the source of all our problems. We are quick to hate the flesh, curse the body, blame our members and yet Jesus came in the body and left with it as well. Its our bodies that help us experience one another and the world as well as our bodies that teach us our limitations. Even when our bodies begin to fail we find that they are capable of giving still. 

Its no surprise that Haggai is a little known prophet, for who wants to hear the voice of reconstruction? Who wants to be confronted in their frustration? Haggai arrives in a short window of time beyond the constraints of the Babylon’s stronghold but in the midst of the peoples disappointments in God. “The people” have been freed but on the other side of captivity is a pile of ruins not riches. It is here that the Lord calls us to rebuild our faith, for how can we have been made free only to neglect our freedom?

Coming out of week one of our series on Haggai, Gavin and Micah begin a conversation about what "reconstruction" might look like in a healthy way.

Not always has the church understood the richness of the Kingdom. Often in histories past we have thought the Kingdom to be something we had to construct by military power and at other times it was thought to be exclusively a heavenly ideal. Thankfully our parent church held a deep affection for the King and His Kingdom in more ways then one. We were forced to rethink salvation, mission, prayer, and even the way we go about the mundane practices of our day. All of it matters to the King.

Turns out the goal of spiritual formation isn’t formation itself, it is a deeper intimacy with Jesus. This week Gavin will sit down with long time friend and guide Steve Riemer to discuss the role of spiritual formation and more specifically the journey of walking with Jesus and others.

Real love is risky. It requires us to go beyond our comfort zone at times and other times to stay on the porch. Thankfully Jesus puts this kind of love on display and has gifted us with wonderful examples in our own past to help us see the love but also to receive it and give it too.
